‘How I Met Your Mother’ Finale: Watch The Alternate Ending That Gives Cristin Milioti A Second Chance

After months of waiting the “How I Met Your Mother” alternate ending is finally here. Some longtime fans of the CBS sitcom were unhappy with the March 31 finale episode, however the new ending is legen – wait for it – dary.

For those that don’t remember, the series finale, “Last Forever,” was a complete tearjerker for viewers. Barney and Robin got married (and divorced) and Ted finally met his wife, Tracy. The pair had two children and got married seen years later. However their union was short lived – it was revealed that Tracy got sick and passed away. The finale concluded with Ted’s two kids figuring out the real reason why their dad was telling them the story of how he met their mother.

“That’s it?” Ted’s daughter, Penny, said after he finished the tale. “No. I don’t buy it. That’s not the reason you made us listen to this. Mom’s hardly in the story. This is the story of how you’re in love with Aunt Robin.”

Ted’s kids gave him their blessing to pursue Robin, and “How I Met Your Mother” concluded with Ted outside Robin’s apartment with the blue French horn. Unfortunately not all the “HIMYM” fans gave the finale their blessing. Some felt mislead, and series co-creator Craig Thomas promised that “Plan B” of the finale would be shared in the series box set.

The box set with the ending doesn’t come out until Sept. 23, however it appears to have leaked online. So, how do the alternate ending differ from the original series finale ending? “How I Met Your Mother” fans get to see Ted and Tracy’s wedding – but with a twist.

“When I think how lucky I am to wake up next to your mom every morning I can’t help but be amazed at how easy it all really was,” Ted explains of reaching that point. He then breaks down exactly how easy it was with a condensed version of the nine seasons of the show (spoiler alert: it really wasn’t that easy) until he gets to the part where he met Tracy with her yellow umbrella while waiting for the train after the wedding.

“See? Easy,” Ted concludes. “And that kids, is how I met your mother.”

The ending completely cut out Tracy’s illness and death, along with Ted showing up at Robin’s apartment with the blue French horn. But is this truly the alternate “How I Met Your Mother” ending that fans have been waiting for? Buzzfeed reports that 20th Century Fox will not comment on the authenticity of the video. However the video embedded on the site was removed by FOX on copyright grounds – which seems a little suspicious if it was simply a fan-made ending.
