‘How I Met Your Mother’ Season 9 Spoilers: Ellie Kemper’s Guest Role To Get Between Ted And Cristin Milioti’s ‘Mother?’ [PHOTO]

“How I Met Your Mother” finally introduced Ted’s future wife in the season eight finale – but do the two already have obstacles in between them?

In season eight, viewers of the CBS sitcom learned that Ted was moving to Chicago after Barney and Robin’s wedding in an attempt to get over his ex. Thanks to flash-fowards, we know that when Ted heads to the train station after the wedding, he’ll meet his future wife, Cristin Milioti’s mother character. Now, TVLine is teasing that Ted will actually encounter another woman before meeting “The Mother.”

Ellie Kemper, who played Erin on “The Office,” will be a guest star in the ninth and final season of “How I Met Your Mother” as Cassie, a guest at Barney and Robin’s wedding, it said. Cassie is described by series co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas as “one of the most attractive, available, and – as Ted discovers – unfortunate guests.”

Barney and Robin’s wedding weekend is set to go season-long, with Kemper’s guest role only set for a single episode appearance. So far there's no word on whether Cassie will be playing a guest of the bride or groom. But since she is a guest, it’s safe to assume that Ted will meet her (and probably hit on her) before his encounter with “The Mother” at the train station.

Kemper’s addition to the cast comes on the heels of some other exciting casting news. “The View” co-host Sherri Shepherd will be featured in the season nine premiere episode as Daphne, a woman who has the misfortune of sitting next to Marshall on his flight from Minnesota to New York. Marshall’s “erratic behavior” will lead to a confrontation, which will result in both of them getting escorted off of the plane prior to take-off. “How I Met Your Mother” fans will also be happy to learn that Wayne Brady’s James (Barney’s brother) has been bumped up from a guest role to a recurring character.

As for other season nine spoilers? The “How I Met Your Mother” production Twitter account posted a photo of Neil Patrick Harris suited up on set for the filming of episode two. Thanks to a previous photo from Bays, we know that the actor is at the Farhampton Inn prepping for Barney’s wedding to Robin.
