How Meghan Markle Sent Queen Elizabeth A Secret Message About Future Plans
She might be making waves with her comments about the pressures of royal life in a new documentary but Meghan Markle may have sent a subtle message to her in-laws that suggests she is still committed to making her life as a royal work.
The Duchess of Sussex has been the topic of conversation for days following comments she made in the new documentary “Meghan & Harry: An African Journey,” which included ones that were seen as damaging because they indicated no one checks on her to see how she’s handling criticism, as well as ones that indicated she really isn’t handling the scrutiny of royal life well. However, while attending the opening ceremony of the One Young World summit, she may have sent a subtle message that despite her comments, she is still committed to royal life.
While attending the event, the Duchess of Sussex wore a purple dress, which, according to Express UK, sends a strong message to Queen Elizabeth II because the color has been long associated with members of the royal family.
The significance of the color with royalty stems from the original cost of dye that was used to produce it, which made it symbolic with wealth and status since generally only those in the ruling class were able to afford it. It’s believed that Markle’s decision to don the color at her first public event following the documentary might be her subtle way of stating that despite her complaints, she isn’t going anywhere.
The comments in the film have caused a stir because of the implications that have come with them. Not only did Markle address the pressure she’s faced due to the endless negative press from British tabloids (she is currently involved in a lawsuit against Associated Newspapers for publishing a private letter she wrote to her estranged father, Thomas), but she also seemed to indicate she was finding royal life as a whole very difficult.
In particular, her comments to Tom Bradby where she said he was the only person who was checking in on her raised ire because they indicated that the rest of the royal family—including Prince Charles, Camilla Parker Bowles, Kate Middleton and Prince William—weren't doing the same.
