HTC’s Leaked Android 4.4.4 KitKat Update Timeline Indicates July Rollout
The new Android 4.4.4 KitKat update may be available for various devices by HTC Corp. (TPE: 2498) between July and September, according to a timeline published by Android developer Llabtoofer.
According to the timeline, devices including the HTC One (M8), HTC One (M7), HTC One Dual SIM, HTC One E8, HTC One Mini and the HTC One Mini 2 will receive the Android 4.4.4 update. Specifically, the HTC One (M8), which released in March, may update as early as July.
The release schedule has not been confirmed by HTC, which is usually quite transparent with the update timeline for its devices. The smartphone maker had already announced plans to update its flagship devices to the upcoming Android L operating system within 90 days of receiving the final system software from Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG).
The upcoming operating system Android L was previewed at the Google I/O conference last Wednesday and will release in the fall. Currently, HTC is the only manufacturer to confirm plans for its Android L implementation.
It is likely this leak is not valid as many of HTC’s flagships including the HTC One (M8) and the HTC One (M7) already run or are able to upgrade to some version of Android 4.4 KitKat. However, HTC has indicated its continued dedication to keeping its most recent products updated with the latest software with its HTC Advantage promise.
