Florida is known for its vast population of sharks and alligators. However, it is not usual to see the animals swimming together.

Gray Vinson got a rare glimpse of an unusual friendship when he spotted a shark and an alligator swimming alongside each other in the Indian River Lagoon on March 21. Vinson managed to capture the incident on camera and shared the video on Facebook.

"It’s not everyday you see a bull shark and a gator swimming together in the Indian river," he said in the caption of the video, which went viral.

In the video, the alligator is seen gliding along the water with a shark swimming nearby. It's hard to spot the bull shark, but it is fairly visible in the video.

"No flipping way?!!! My boys will never kayak with me again!!" one person commented on the post. Another said: "Wow that’s impressive footage. Good job! Big ole gator too!"

Another user commented: "We've seen both separately in the lagoon but that is pretty cool to see them side by side like that."

Vinson told CBS Miami he was shocked to see the alligator and the shark as both seemed out of place.

"The water in the Indian River is brackish and normally you think of sharks in the ocean and alligators in fresh water," he said. "I only started seeing bull sharks here a few years back."

As of April 2019, there are about 1 million alligators in Florida, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Residents of Florida often come face-to-face with alligators as they end up entering the residential areas near rivers or lakes.

Earlier this month, a Florida woman was shocked to find a huge alligator inside her garage. Torrie Heathcoat, who took to Facebook to share a video of the 7-foot-long alligator lurking around in the garage, wrote: "I may have just had a mild heart attack."

"Now I'm terrified that there will be one under my car. I don't know if it came from the lake, I don't know if it came from the reserve," Heathcoat told local media WPTV at the time. Heathcoat called 911 and posted a photo to Facebook as she waited for the FWC to respond.
