Husband Accused Of Throwing Acid At Wife For Not Delivering Baby Boy

In a horrific incident, a man has been accused of throwing acid at his wife for not delivering a baby boy.

The incident took place in the northern Indian state of Punjab Tuesday evening. The accused, identified as Harvinder Singh, has been married to the victim for seven years and has two young daughters with her. He reportedly got enraged after his wife, whose identity was not revealed, gave birth to a third daughter. Singh threw acid at his wife, reported Hindustan Times.

The victim suffered 58% burns and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. The woman sustained serious burn injuries on her chest and her head. The children were not injured in the incident.

It was not the first time Singh harassed his wife for not delivering a baby boy. It was also found that he used to pick fights with the victim over petty issues.

"The accused wanted a son from the woman and used to blame her for having given birth to two daughters but not to a son so far," the police said.

A case has already been filed against Singh. He is currently facing charges such as attempted murder and assault causing grievous bodily harm. However, he remains on the run and is yet to be arrested, the police said as per Times of India.

"We are investigating the matter thoroughly. We are also probing out from where the accused managed to get the acid as it was a matter of serious concern. It is also learnt that the accused was a drug addict. The hunt is on to nab him," the police added.

In a similar incident, a woman in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh killed her boyfriend by throwing acid at him after learning about his plans to marry another person. Sonam Pandey invited Devendra Kumar home on the pretext of fixing a fan, but they got into a heated argument over Kumar's engagement with another woman. At some point, Pandey threw acid at him. Kumar, who suffered 80% burns, was rushed to the hospital but soon succumbed to his injuries. The police charged Pandey with murder and assault causing grievous harm.
