A man was charged with murder after he killed his eight-month-old daughter by attacking her with acid. The incident took place in the western Indian state of Gujarat on Wednesday.

Police officials said the victim’s mother had gone out for some work after putting the infant to sleep in the cradle. When she returned home, the woman found the baby dead. Police said the victim’s father, identified as 40-year-old Vinuji Thakor, killed the baby to frame some of his family members who were against his affair with another woman.

“In our investigation, we have found that the girl was malnourished and her mother is physically handicapped due to paralysis. The accused was having an affair with one of his sister-in-laws and the family was against the same,” police said.

“So, this man had hatched a conspiracy by throwing acid on his daughter. He wanted to get framed those people from the family — who were against his affair — in his daughter’s murder. He initially made his wife to call police and inform that some people had killed her daughter. However, investigation has revealed that he himself had thrown acid on the girl,” police added.

The man was taken into custody and during interrogation, he confessed to the crime.

"During questioning, the girl's father broke down and admitted that he killed the baby and forced his wife who is disabled to call police and make a false claim that their relatives were involved in the crime,” said deputy superintendent of police Manjita Vanzara.

Meanwhile, an autopsy revealed that the victim died from “shock due to burns.”

Police also said the accused “is a convict in a case of rape and had come out of jail only three months back after serving his sentence.”
