Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton in a quiet place during a romantic getaway.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge dated for almost a decade before the future king decided to pop the big question. According to Mirror, Prince William picked a quiet location during their romantic trip in Kenya. Based on the photos, the place was very cozy.

Prince William and Middleton were staying inside one of the luxurious Rutundu log cabins during their trip. It’s nestled along the shores of Lake Rutundu. The rooms are an epitome of rustic chic with elegant wooden exteriors. They were built from large cedar logs found in the surrounding forest. There are private decks and views of the surrounding landscape including Mount Kenya.

The cabin where the duke and duchess stayed offered superior privacy. One has to make a long drive to reach the heart of the Kenyan landscape. In fact, the cabins have no phone signal and only uses radio for communication.

However, the main cabin has everything one wants for a romantic getaway. It has a cozy sitting room and dining room with plush furniture and a huge log fire, which is ideal for snuggling up on a cold weather.

The cabin also includes a spacious veranda, a large kitchen and a large bedroom with a double bed and ensuite bathroom. Aside from the beautiful cabins, guests could go walking, bird watching, horse riding and fishing.

Prince William revealed in a past interview that he had been bringing the ring for weeks and was only waiting for the perfect timing to pop the big question to his then-girlfriend. When he gave the band to Middleton, Prince William warned her that she would be in big trouble if she were to lose it. The future king himself made sure that the ring, which was previously owned by his mother Princess Diana, was safe.

“I’d been carrying it around with me in my rucksack for about three weeks before that and I literally would not let it go,” Prince William said. “Everywhere I went I was keeping hold of it, because I knew this thing, if it disappeared, I would be in a lot of trouble.”
