KEY POINTS

  • Noted tipster Jon Prosser claims that Apple may make a big move in October
  • He appeared to confirm in a tweet that the iPhone 12 and new iPads will be unveiled in less than three months
  • Nothing is confirmed at the moment

Apple may be launching its highly anticipated iPhone 12 as well as a new iPad model in October this year, a leaker claimed.

Tipster Jon Prosser of Frontpage Tech recently posted a short tweet that will pique the interest of Apple fans across the globe. In the tweet, the leaker simply mentioned “iPhone 12,” “new iPads” and “October” together, seemingly hinting that something big will happen in that month.

Apple normally announces new iPhones every September of every year, then releases them a month later. Prosser's recent tweet indicates that the company may unveil its new devices later than usual, perhaps due to the current health crisis that affected its production.

But since Prosser didn't mention “announce,” it may even be possible that the devices would be released in October. This is but a speculation, however, which means fans should wait for Apple to make official announcements.

What to expect

Whether the devices will actually be released or merely announced in October remains to be seen at the moment. What's known right now is that Apple is busy working on new devices that will be released in the near future.

The iPhone 12 series, for one, is expected to have four different handsets that come in three sizes.

  • First, there's the low-end 5.4-inch iPhone 12.
  • Second, there's the bigger but same-specced 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max.
  • Third, there's the higher-end 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro.
  • Fourth, there's the top-tier 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max, which will be the biggest iPhone yet.

All of these handsets will feature the A14 Bionic chip, which is expected to give the new handsets significantly improved performance compared to the A13 Bionic chip powering the iPhone 11 series as well as the 2020 iPhone SE.

All four are also expected to feature improved cameras compared to their predecessors. In addition, the iPhone 12 series is said to come with OLED displays and smaller notches and arrive with iOS 14 preinstalled.

As for the “new iPads,” not much is known about them at the moment. Prosser didn't give any details regarding the devices. MacRumors speculates that these could be minor revamps to some iPad models that haven't been refreshed yet.
