‘iZombie’ Season 3 Spoilers: Aly Michalka Explains Why She Thinks Peyton Fell For Blaine
“iZombie” actress Aly Michalka opened up about why she thinks her character, Peyton, suddenly developed strong romantic feelings for Blaine (David Anders) in Season 2 of the CW series.
“I think Peyton fell for Blaine because he’s a bit of a dark horse for her,” Michalka said in a new featurette for the upcoming Season 3 of the Rose McIver-led series. “I think just the fact that he’s a bit of a bad boy intrigues her and fascinates her.”
“I don’t think he’s the usual guy she goes for,” Michalka added. “I think that she’s a monogamous type but she’s not a relationship person because she’s so focused on her work. So I think [when] she meets Blaine, [she] thinks this can be a really fun hookup thing, and then [she] ends up having more feelings for him than she intended.”

Peyton slept with Blaine once last season, but when she found out that he’s the one who turned Liv (McIver) into a zombie, she felt guilty for hooking up with him and decided to distance herself from him. But when Blaine valiantly saved Peyton from Mr. Boss’ (Eddie Jemison) minions, who kidnapped her in the Season 2 finale, it seemed that her feelings for him grew stronger, much to the dismay of her former lover, Ravi (Rahul Kohli).
“Ravi’s gonna have a very hard time realizing and putting the puzzle pieces together that Blaine and [Peyton] were a thing or had a fling and that she actually had true feelings for Blaine at some point,” Peyton teased of how Ravi is going to deal with the love triangle between him, Peyton and Blaine. “I think that’s gonna be really hard for him to wrap his head around, and I think he’s gonna feel betrayed as a friend and as her past lover, too.”
Peyton’s Season 3 journey won’t just be about her love triangle with Blaine and Ravi because the new installment will also feature her job as an assistant district attorney. In fact, according to the summary for Season 3, Peyton pulls at a thread in one of her cases which may lead to the villain that’s pulling all the strings.
Peyton is also very much involved in the procedural aspect of the show in Season 3. As revealed during the “iZombie” panel at the San Diego Comic-Con in July, the series is taking the “Law & Order” route in the upcoming season.
“Liv and Clive (Malcolm Goodwin) are going to solve a case in one episode, and then Peyton is going to then prosecute it in the following episode and find out there’s more to it than it seems,” executive producer Rob Thomas revealed.
“iZombie” Season 3, episode 1, titled “Heaven Just Got a Little Smoother,” premieres on Tuesday, April 4 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
