  • Jameela Jamil adored Jada Pinkett Smith in "The Nutty Professor" and her other projects before it
  • The "Good Place" star started to dislike Smith after reading a rumor about her that involved Salma Hayek
  • Jamil's mind about Smith changed once more after watching her on "Red Table Talk"

"The Good Place" star Jameela Jamil recently got candid with Jada Pinkett Smith on the latter's talk show, telling the host that she used to dislike her due to a tabloid rumor.

During her guest appearance on Friday's episode of "Red Table Talk," Jamil discussed how easy it is for a woman to be brought down on social media with hosts Jada, as well as Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris.

"We exaggerate how fantastic, how beautiful, how incredible she is so people start to become a little bit sick of her face, and that’s when the destruction becomes easy, because we have no empathy left for her. We have no sympathy," Jamil said.

The actress confessed that she was a big fan of Will Smith's wife, but this changed at one point after she read a rumor about Jada.

"When I first grew up, I adored you in 'The Nutty Professor' and everything you ever did before that. I was obsessed with you. And then I started reading headlines about you, around the time that Will was doing 'Wild Wild West,'" Jamil recalled.

"I remember the exact headline that made me be like, ‘I don’t know if I like this woman.’ It was 'Jada Says 'Stay Away From Sexy Salma [Hayek]' in like quotations as if they knew you’d said it in the privacy of your own home," she added.

Jada denied the tabloid's claim, insisting that Salma Hayek was one of her favorite women.

As for why she believed the headline, Jamil said that Jada's marriage was too happy and everything was going too well for her. However, after watching Jada on "Red Table Talk," her thoughts about the latter changed once more.

"I love you. And it was because, partially of this show and also just watching you come and speak out about so many things that just made me fall in love with you again because finally you were speaking on your own terms," Jamil said. "You had to build your own show to finally not be misrepresented."

Jamil also spoke about the news linking her to Meghan Markle in September. She denied that they were best friends, revealing that she only met the Duchess of Sussex once.

As for the source of the rumors, the actress suggested that the media was linking her to Markle in order to blame the latter for her every word and move.

"I’ve met this woman once. Ever," she wrote on Twitter. "#BestFriends These articles are a strategy to now blame her for MY every word and move. And to attempt to discredit my calling them out as if it isn’t a *FACT* that they bully and harass her for clicks, to feed Britain’s already sturdy xenophobia."
