'Jeen-Yuhs': Teaser For Netflix Docuseries Shows Kanye West's Incredible Rapping Skills From 2002
The new teaser for the upcoming Netflix documentary series "Jeen-Yuhs" offers a glimpse of Kanye West's amazing rap skills from two decades ago. The teaser, which debuted on YouTube over the weekend, features a clip of the "Donda" artist rapping in 2002.
The throwback clip showed Kanye rapping the lyrics of "Two Words" with fellow rapper Mos Def, as collaborator Consequence and actor Wood Harris sat with them inside what appeared to be a conference room. In it, Kanye could be heard asking Def, "Mos, can you spit a piece of that 'Two Words' sh-t?" Apparently, he was referencing their would-be track of the same name. The said song was later included in Kanye's 2004 debut album, "The College Dropout."
Kanye took over as soon as Def finished delivering his part in the track, his energy building up with each verse. At one point, Def even applauded him as he reached a crescendo. The camera then panned away before Kanye continued rapping and directed the lens back to his face.
"Jeen-Yuhs" boasts years of unreleased footage from Kanye collaborators Clarence "Coodie" Simmons and Chike Ozah a.k.a. Coodie & Chike, who have been documenting Kanye's performances since 1998 and intending to create the documentary since 2002. Coodie & Chike also co-directed the 2005 music video for "Two Words" and followed the rapper through his 2020 presidential campaign.
While Kanye is not directly involved in the making of the docuseries, he recently endorsed "Jeen-Yuhs" by posting its on his Instagram feed. The three-part series is set to premiere on Netflix in 2022.
Just last month, Kanye released his tenth studio album, "Donda," which was named after his late mother Donda West, who died at the age of 58 in 2007 due to plastic surgery complications. It marked Kanye's first release since he dropped his 2019 gospel album, "Jesus is King," which was recognized as the Best Contemporary Christian Album at the 2020 Grammy Awards.
"Donda" also marked his first album since his wife of six years, Kim Kardashian West, filed for divorce from him in February.
