Jenna Dewan has slammed online news publications for allegedly distorting a recent statement she made about Channing Tatum involving her pregnancy. On Tuesday, the actress and dancer issued a statement after media reports put her ex-husband in a bad light.
Dewan made headlines on Monday after she made comments around the time she gave birth to their daughter Everly. During the “Dear Gabby” podcast, she opened up about the difficulty of giving birth without Tatum by her side. She revealed that her then-husband was not available “for the most part” at the time due to his work schedule, leaving her, “my doula, and Evie all by ourselves traveling at six weeks.”
“That was really hard because that was long hours,” said the “Step Up” actress. “I did have her on set with me constantly. It was just really difficult. And I had a lot of postpartum anxiety I would say. It was like, I just never stopped. You know, you’re up a couple times in the night and then you’re working all day. I was breastfeeding, I was pumping, I was without a partner, I mean it was just craziness,” she added.
After she made the comments, the press picked up her statements and made headlines that painted Tatum as an absentee husband and father. To clarify her statements, Dewan took to her social media Tuesday to defend Tatum and say that her recent interview was “distorted.”
“It’s unfortunate that countless media outlets have taken an important conversation on a woman’s experience with postpartum issues and pulled quotes to make it appear that I was slamming my daughter’s father, something I would never do,” wrote Dewan.
“As two working parents, we both faced challenges at the time, but I speak only for myself and not about him. Anyone who actually listens to the interview, something I encourage everyone to do, will clearly see that my words have been distorted for clicks and to push false, salacious gossip with no regard for the actual people involved, or the message intended,” she continued.
Dewan and Tatum first met in 2006 during the filming of “Step Up.” They tied the knot in 2009 before announcing their split in 2018.
