Jensen Ackles’ First Post-‘Supernatural’ Role Reunites Him With Eric Kripke

After wrapping up “Supernatural” this fall, Jensen Ackles will reunite with the CW show’s creator Eric Kripke. Ackles has been cast on Amazon’s “The Boys.”

Ackles is set to play Soldier Boy, the original superhero, in “The Boys” Season 3. “After Soldier Boy fought in World War II, he became the first super celebrity, and a mainstay of American culture for decades,” Amazon’s press release reveals.

“As Soldier Boy, the very first Superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role,” Kripke added in a statement. “I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of ‘Supernatural’ to ‘The Boys.’”

Kripke created “Supernatural,” which follows demon-hunting brothers Dean and Sam Winchester (played by Ackles and Jared Padalecki, respectively), and he stayed on as showrunner for the show’s first five seasons before exiting. This is the first time since that Kripke has reunited with either of the wayward sons from “Supernatural.”

Ackles is currently in Vancouver filming the final two episodes of “Supernatural.” During a conversation with Senator Cory Booker and senate candidate MJ Hegar, the Texas native teased a satisfying conclusion to the long-running series.

“Episode 19 feels kind of like the season finale for [Season] 15 and episode 20 feels like the series finale, so it’s kind of a double whammy,” the Dean Winchester actor said. “There have been some adjustments made from the scripts that we were going to shoot in March to the scripts that we’re shooting now…We’ve had to accommodate a pandemic, so it’s unfortunate, but I still think it’s gonna hit a home run, I hope.”

After the Impala drives into the sunset (hopefully), Ackles will join “The Boys” while his co-star Padalecki also has his next gig lined up. He’ll headline a reboot of “Walker, Texas Ranger” for The CW.

"The Boys" Season 2 premieres Sept. 4 on Amazon Prime Video, but don't expect Ackles to show until next year's third season. Meanwhile, the final seven episodes of "Supernatural" start airing Thursday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
