Jessa and Ben Seewald Baby Name Revealed; '19 Kids And Counting' Stars Share Meaning Of Spurgeon
Christian reality stars Jessa and Ben Seewald finally have shared their son's name with the world. The couple welcomed their first child last Thursday and, while they shared several photos of him, few details about his birth or his name were revealed. After thinking about it for nearly a week, the couple, who rose to fame on TLC's now-canceled series "19 Kids and Counting," have finally settled on a name.
On Wednesday Jessa, 23, and Ben, 20, shared a video on the Seewald Family blog in which they made the big unveiling. The pair stood before the camera with their newborn son giving fans all the details. Jessa told fans they were "very excited" to introduce their son Spurgeon Elliot Seewald to the world.
Ben shared the meaning behind the unique name: Spurgeon was the last name of a 19th century preacher, Charles Spurgeon. Ben said he "had a big impact" on him and his wife, which is why they decided to name their baby after him.
The name reveal comes just days after Jessa explained to fans why it was taking so long to tell the world their son's name. In a Facebook post Tuesday, she said she and Ben were struggling to settle on a middle name, but would share it with fans just as soon as something was set in stone. Jessa said she was "looking forward" to looping her fans in on the infant's name as well as further details of his birth.
While it took nearly a week to reveal their son's name, Jessa and Ben were kind enough to update the public about his birth. Ben Friday took to the Seewald family blog to confirm his son, whom they nicknamed Quincy, had been born. He said the baby weighed in at 9 pounds, 11 ounces, was 21 1/2 inches long, and said both "he and Jessa are doing great." While the birth went off without a hitch, it was later revealed the former "19 Kids" star wound up being rushed to the hospital.
