John Krasinski Explains Decision To Do Horror Film With Wife Emily Blunt
Hollywood funnyman John Krasinski has opened up about his and wife Emily Blunt’s decision to do a horror movie at this point in their careers and their life as a married couple.
Krasinski and Blunt are currently promoting their new film, “A Quiet Place,” which also marks the first time that they are working together on a big-screen project. The film is far from Krasinski’s usual work because although he has tried almost every other genre, he has yet to engage in a horror flick.
“A Quiet Place” is a movie about a family of four who are living an unusual life. The couple and their two kids are being hunted by a mysterious force that only detects its preys by sound. So as a general rule in their household, they are not allowed to make any noise. They even resort to doing sign language instead of talking properly to each other.
Speaking of the difficult situation the characters have to Playboy Magazine, Krasinski dished that he oddly finds the family’s living condition beautiful. “There was something so beautiful about putting a family in a situation where, without giving too much away, this is the one family in the world that needs to talk and can’t. They’re going through something they should really be talking about with each other and a therapist, and they can’t,” he said.
The “The Office” alum then revealed what drove him to accept the horror project. “We’d just had our second daughter and, you know, I’m a super sensitive, emotional person, so I think I was probably wide-open when I read the script,” he said. “The idea really triggered something inside me about protection and parenting, and I just thought maybe I could make it a metaphor for parenthood: the fact that no matter what, there will come a time when you don’t have control over what your kids do, what they say, what they think, and you just hope that the preparation was enough to get them through and they survive.”
Of course Blunt was also sold on the idea, for she, too, found the film interesting. “We not only thought the story was so unique and different that there was no way our marriage could supersede it, but that, weirdly, our marriage fit right in,” Krasinski quipped.
“A Quite Place” is hitting cinemas on April 6.
