John Mayer Defends Justin Bieber On Twitter Amid ‘Purpose’ Tour Cancellation Backlash
It wasn’t an easy decision for “Love Yourself” singer Justin Bieber to cancel the rest of his “Purpose” World Tour, but he still did so, much to the disappointment of his fans.
Bieber offered no reason for the cancellation, but many suspect it’s for his own emotional and physical well-being. While many fans offered Bieber their support, a good many others also called him out for being selfish.

But Mayer does not think so and even lauded Bieber’s decision to prioritize himself instead of his fans. Mayer also referenced the late Chester Bennington of the rock band Linkin Park, who committed suicide on July 20.
Meanwhile, an insider told Entertainment Tonight that Bieber decided to cut back on his work because he is exhausted. “This is a guy who has had 150 shows on this tour, on six continents, over the last year and half, and he’s tired,” the source said. “He needed a break and as much as he didn’t want to disappoint his fans, the best decision for him was to cancel the remaining tour dates.”
A different insider told E! News that Bieber’s spirituality also played a role in his tour cancellation. Bieber, who is a staunch supporter of Hillsong Church, has relied on the counsel of pastors such as Judah Smith and Carl Lentz when it comes to his work and personal life. Through them, he learned about balance and how to keep sane in his hectic industry. But in the end, it was he who ultimately called the shots on his tour cancellation.
“Justin’s definitely done some soul searching lately but it was his own decision to cancel the tour. It’s been hectic and that ‘rock star’ life doesn’t mix anymore with the life he wants to live,” the insider said.
At the same time, Bieber has gotten close to actor and model Patrick Schwarzenegger, and his influence is definitely rubbing off on the singer. Together, the boys enjoy going to church and reflecting on Bible studies, not to mention doing other relaxing activities.
