Justin Bieber Releases ‘What Do You Mean?’ Song, Tweets ‘I’m Back’ [LISTEN]
Justin Bieber’s countdown to the release of “What Do You Mean?” has finally reached zero. The singer surprised fans and dropped the new single on Friday, Aug. 28, just hours after the lyric video was leaked online. Bieber, who’s been recruiting his celebrity pals to help him promote the song, didn’t mention the leak, but did tweet a link to Spotify writing, “I’m back.”
In the lyric video, professional skateboarders Chelsea Castro and Ryan Sheckler make an appearance and Bieber does a brief cameo. As previously reported, Bieber told Ryan Seacrest in July during a radio interview that “What Do You Mean?” is a “fun…summery” song. “Definitely the first single is amazing,” said Bieber. “I worked hard on it with a guy named Poo Bear.” On Thursday, the 21-year-old singer revealed that he’s going to perform the new track for the first time at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, hosted by Miley Cyrus.
“Only @mileycyrus. Lol. It’s true. I’m performing on the #vmas,” he tweeted. Bieber will join other performers like Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd, Tori Kelly, A$AP Rocky, Demi Lovato, Twenty One Pilots, Pharrell, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. The singer is also nominated in four VMA categories for his EDM collaboration with Skrillex and Diplo for “Where Are U Now.” The music video for the track is being considered for Best Art Direction, Best Visual Effects, Song Of The summer and Best Editing.
“What Do You Mean?” is Bieber’s first single from his upcoming fourth studio album. While the singer, nor his camp, has confirmed news about Bieber’s album, rumors suggest he will drop the project in November 2015.
