A lot of celebrities are voicing their opinions on racism and police brutality on social media. The latest star to jump on the bandwagon is none other than Justin Bieber, who has pledged to fight racial injustice.
Taking to Instagram, the 26-year-old musician shared a message with his 138 million followers, saying that he wants to fight racism because his music and style have been widely inspired by black culture. Bieber further stated that he has “benefited off” black culture and is committed to using his platform as an artist to speak up about injustice and oppression.
“I am inspired by black culture. I have benefited off of black culture. My style, how I sing, dance, perform, and my fashion has all been influenced and inspired by black culture. I am committed to using my platform from this day forward to learn, to speak about racial injustice and systemic oppression,” Bieber wrote.
The “Let Me Love You” hitmaker concluded his message by saying he is “identifying” various ways to be part of change.
Bieber’s message comes a week after his wife and model Hailey Bieber opened up about her privilege as a white woman. The model uploaded a video of her and Bieber on the photo-sharing platform and captioned it with an explanation of how that privilege works for her.
The model stated that she knows how privileged she is to be a white woman in a society that always discriminates on the basis of color. Hailey also explained that she will never understand the pain of the people who are “racially profiled” and “targeted” daily and those who live in constant fear of losing their lives.
“As a white woman, I know I am privileged, and I did not always understand what that really meant. I will never understand what it’s like to be racially profiled and targeted and wake up every day uncertain if I could lose my life because of the color of my skin,” Hailey said.
Recently, Emma Watson also vowed to do more for the vulnerable people of the society who continue to face the problem of racism in today’s time.
“There is so much racism, both in our past and present, that is not acknowledged nor accounted for. White supremacy is one of the systems of hierarchy and dominance, of exploitation and oppression, that is tightly stitched into society,” Watson wrote on social media.
