John Legend is forever indebted to rapper Kanye West, who helped him in the early stages of his career. In a recent interview with Republic Records, Legend also opened up about his new song “My Imagination” from the soundtrack album for the Broadway show “Finding Neverland.”

"When I moved to New York, I met Kanye, and he signed me to his production company, and really made an investment in launching my career as a solo artist. So, his believing in me was really important," Legend told Republic Records, as E! Online reported.

Legend said he was lucky to have people such as West help him out “all along the way." He added that the “Yeezus” rapper was not the only one who believed in him. Legend said that “music teachers, choir directors” and others recognized his talent and steered him in the right direction.

The 36-year-old singer said he also received major support from supermodel wife Chrissy Teigen, for whom Legend co-wrote the song “All of Me.” The song is on Spotify's list of most popular wedding songs.

Meanwhile, Legend's song “My Imagination” from “Finding Neverland” is already a hit.

Other artists on the soundtrack album include Zendaya, Nick Jonas, Ellie Goulding, Jennifer Lopez, Trey Songz, Christina Aguilera, Rita Ora, Matthew Morrison, Jon Bon Jovi, Christina Perri, Goo Goo Dolls, Pentatonix and more.

“Finding Neverland” is released by Republic Records and produced by Gary Barlow and executive produced by Harvey Weinstein, Victoria Parker, and Dana Sano.
