Some royal fans have accused Kate Middleton of copying her sister-in-law Meghan Markle's style in recent royal outings.
The Duchess of Cambridge stepped out Wednesday with Prince William to visit the Foundling Museum in London for their first royal engagement of the year. For the outing, the fashion icon wore a head-to-toe monochromatic blue look that featured a turtleneck sweater, matching trousers and pointed-toe suede pumps of a similar hue, which she topped with a knee-length teal coat.
Some royal fans on Twitter claimed that Middleton's coat seemed very similar to the royal blue Smythe coat that Markle wore in 2018 for her appearance at an event to promote "Together: Our Community Cookbook."
Like her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Sussex styled the coat with a dark knit turtleneck bodysuit, but Markle completed her outfit with a Misha Nonoo black pleated skirt and a pair of Sarah Flint pumps, according to People.
Middleton's Thursday look also got the attention of Sussex fans. The duchess recycled a camel wool coat by Massimo Dutti and paired it with a brown roll-neck jumper from Reiss and matching boots for her visit to the Clitheroe Community Hospital, according to Daily Mail.
Back in 2020, Markle stepped out at Canada House in London alongside husband Prince Harry wearing a similar-looking camel coat by Reiss, a caramel turtleneck and a chocolate-toned slip skirt, according to Cosmopolitan.
"I’m here for Kate Middleton's duplication of Meghan Markle's monochrome power style. After all, there's no better way to pay homage to one's sister-in-law than through imitation, which, some insist, is the best form of flattery," one person tweeted. "Below are 2 times Kate cosplayed Meghan in 2022."
"She's been copying Meghan for years already," another person claimed.
"She bought all [of] Meghan Markle's coats," another Twitter user wrote, before claiming that Middleton previously favored coat dresses and began stepping out in coats and pants more often only after Markle joined the royal family.
However, some said the looks weren't really that unique in the first place.
"It's January. Woman in trousers and winter coat, shocker," a Twitter user commented with laughing emojis.
"Kate’s wearing a light brown sweater dress and boots. Meghan is wearing a dark silk skirt and dark brown sweater with heels. The only thing similar is their basic brown coats," another wrote.
Another royal fan pointed out that this was not the first time Middleton has been spotted wearing a camel coat.
On Thursday, Middleton and Prince William met with doctors, nurses and other health workers at Clitheroe Community Hospital in the northwest of England to check in on the staff who have faced unique challenges during the pandemic, People reported.
During their visit, the royal couple, who adopted a new black cocker spaniel into their family last year after the death of their beloved dog Lupo, was introduced to a cockapoo puppy named Alfie. The puppy will be trained as a therapy dog to support patients and workers at the hospital.
