Kate Middleton Considered ‘Boring’ For This Reason
She rarely finds herself on the receiving end of harsh criticism when it comes to her fashion choices, but that doesn’t mean that some are impressed with the way Kate Middleton often appears in public and that there are royal followers out there who even find the Duchess’ style to be too conservative and boring.
While speaking about the fact that the Duchess of Cambridge broke from protocol and was seen wearing shorts in public for the first time since 2008 while participating in the King’s Cup Regatta earlier this month, Page Six’s Royal Roundtable contributors all had different thoughts on the fact that she wore the ensemble.
“Kate Middleton was just spotted wearing shorts. I’m sure you must be asking yourself ‘what’s the big deal? It' summer, folks wear shorts,’” commentator Elena Fishman said. “But to put this groundbreaking development in perspective, the last time Kate was spotted in shorts was 2008, years before she was a member of the Royal Family and was at a roller disco party so it almost doesn’t even count.”
However, fellow commentator and social editor for the publications Kristin McNamara disagreed, stating that it was a letdown to see the ensemble she chose, but that it was to be expected for the royal, who she didn’t feel was very daring when it came to her choices in attire.
“I just wish she had one-tenth of Princess Diana’s sense of style,” she said. “And that she maybe wore some tight biker shorts that Princess Di used to wear with the oversized sweatshirt that looked so cute. They’re back in style, but she’s boing Kate, so what do we expect? I just have higher hopes and I was disappointed.”
Of course, while this may be the first time the Duchess’ style has been referred to as boring, it isn’t the only time she’s faced some criticism for a decision she has made. In fact, earlier this year, her decision to wear a coat worth an estimated £1000 during a visit to an impoverished area in Blackpool was touted as not being “brilliant optics” by critics.
