Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle Can Help Public Accept Prince Charles As King
Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle can help with Prince Charles’ reign in one particular way.
There are still a number of Brits who don’t approve of Prince Charles as their next king. But the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex can reportedly help the Prince of Wales be more relatable and acceptable to the public, according to royal expert Phil Dampier.
“With the younger Royals coming up behind you can see the future mapped out so I think they’re more than happy to tolerate Charles for the relatively short period he’s going to be King,” Dampier said.
The younger royals, who include the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are apparently more popular than the Prince of Wales. The public is also warmer and more supportive of them. As such, their influence might convince the people to accept Prince Charles.
“There’s a hard-core of people who don’t like Prince Charles and I don’t think anything’s going to change their mind, but I think most people respect him and do appreciate he’s been handed an extremely difficult task,” he added.
Based on polls conducted in the past, more people prefer Prince William and Middleton taking over the throne after Queen Elizabeth II. A YouGov poll in November 2017 revealed that 56 percent of the Brits favored the Duke of Cambridge to be their next king. Meanwhile, only 13 percent wanted Prince Charles. Another 10 percent voted for Prince Harry.
On the other hand, Middleton led the race to be the next queen with 63 percent. Only 8 percent favored Camilla Parker Bowles and 3 percent supported Markle.
There have been rumors that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will take over the throne. However, royal experts believe that this is unlikely to happen as the Queen has no right to choose who will reign after her. The family has to follow a protocol, and based on this, Prince Charles will take over the throne after her.
Also, Prince William reportedly has no plans to be king ahead of his father. The Duke of Cambridge knew that he would have a shorter reign like his dad, but he doesn’t mind, according to Gill Knappet.
