Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle's fashion choices have so much to tell about their personalities.

Dr. Anna Akbari, an author and former professor at NYU and Parsons who specializes in the sociology of style and self-presentation, recently examined the Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex's styles. She revealed that Middleton is preppy, while Markle feels like an outsider.

When Markle officially joined the royal family, the former "Suits" star had a change of wardrobe. She started to wear more dresses, skirts and pantyhose. According to the expert, Markle wanted to prove herself.

"Prior to her engagement, we saw more of a Hollywood-chic aesthetic—artfully distressed with an eye on trends. This is a moment where we see a shift into royal formality. She knows there will be different expectations now that she's entered the family, and that transition is reflected in her style choices," Akbari explained to Cosmopolitan.

Markle's choice of wedding dress also reflected this. The psychologist said that it indicated that she could have been trying to "demonstrate that she can take this new role seriously."

On the other hand, Middleton had little adjustments to do. In fact, Prince William's wife is comfortable with her role in the Firm.

Middleton's choice of dress during their engagement interview was regal and pretty sexy. The same could be said for the royal mom of three's wedding dress.

For Akbari, Midleton always appears preppy, super colorful with her full skirts, cheery patterns and coat dresses when attending formal engagements. The Duchess of Cambridge reportedly opted for this as it is "pretty timeless and hard to critique."

"She's mastered that look, and it suits her. Imagining Meghan Markle in the same style would feel forced—she's never been preppy, so it would be weird to see her fully embracing that." Akbari continued.

Also, Middleton's tendency to recycle outfits "sends a message that she's real and relatable." Just recently, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge recycled their outfit in Germany in their first joint engagement. Prince William and Middleton showed up at the first Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit in London donning the same outfits that they wore in Hamburg in 2017.

Aside from Middleton, Camilla Parker Bowles has also been spotted recycling outfits. In fact, the Duchess of Cornwall's outfit on the second day of Royal Ascot was similar to the one she wore at Prince Charles' Garden Party on May 22.
