Kate Middleton and Prince William have been praised by royal experts for showing their “raw” side during their Zoom calls.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are quarantining at their Norfolk home amid the coronavirus lockdown. They are with their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
However, the future king and queen continue reaching out to the people through video calls via Zoom. Royal correspondents Omid Scobie and Maggie Rulli discussed the royals’ new approach during the "Heir Podcast" and they praised it.
For them, the Zoom calls show more side of the royal couple that the people don’t often see because the calls do not involve the royal press officers.
“You have been on royal engagements, you know how orchestrated these events are. So there is something really refreshing about the organic nature of these Zoom calls,” Scobie said.
Royal engagements are usually planned down to the very second, Scobie explained. However, Prince William and Middleton's video calls do not have a time frame. In fact, Middleton’s call with the midwives ran as long as it needed to be.
“I hope once this is all over we keep some of this informality on royal engagements moving forward. I am really enjoying seeing this side of both the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, I hope that continues,” Scobie added.
Rulli agreed with Scobie’s observation. She also found it “very authentic” and noticed that there was no time constraints.
“That is why we are seeing this very authentic, almost raw side to both of them right now, especially Kate. Maybe it is because they are doing it on their own,” Rulli said. “There are no time constraints or added pressure of the press secretary being there. It is a much more intimate moment.”
In related news, Scobie is one of the authors of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s upcoming biography “Finding Freedom.” The book received mixed opinions from the public.
Some were happy because they believed it would be Markle’s outlet to address the different criticisms she faced in the past months. Meanwhile, others were irked that the royal couple agreed to do it. Many also questioned the shady title.
“This has to be a joke. Freedom from what? They will never be happy,” @nikibik1 wrote on Twitter.
