Kate Middleton Video Of Duchess Closing Car Door While Carrying Charlotte Resurfaces
Meghan Markle surprised the public recently by closing a car door herself, but not everyone is impressed because Kate Middleton did it too while carrying a baby.
The Duchess of Sussex caused a stir when she closed the door of the car upon her arrival at a recent event. Many were shocked because most royals don't do it for security reasons. While many are impressed with what Markle did, Janet Street-Porter, a journalist for Daily Mail, isn't one of them.
"Sorry, Meghan it will take more than shutting a car door to persuade me you’re normal. Try changing a wheel," Street-Porter wrote.
The journalist also pointed out that the Prince Harry's wife is "not the trail-blazer we hoped." There are a number of videos of the Duchess of Cambridge doing the same. Street-Porter even noted that back in 2016, Middleton shut her own car door while carrying Princess Charlotte in her arms.
According to etiquette expert, William Hanson, royals don't usually shut their car door on their own. "Usually, if you are a member of the royal family or a dignitary, you have a member of staff to open and close a car door for you," he told BBC News. He explained that it's more on the security reasons and not for "airs and graces."
Also, royal commentator Victoria Arbiter pointed out amid the praises Markle received on Twitter that shutting door doesn't fall under a royal protocol. So, it's actually normal for royals when they do.
"Current state: Poking my own eyes out after reading Meghan 'broke protocol' by shutting her car door. Car door shutting does not fall under protocol!" Arbiter wrote on Twitter.
In related news, Markle committed a fashion faux pas on her recent outing with Prince Harry. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped out on Monday to attend the Coach Core Awards. On the said sighting, the new royal wore a blue Oscar de la Renta top and paired it with black Alturazza trousers. Many believe that wearing black and blue is a big no-no in the fashion industry. Thus, the former "Suits" star just made a fashion blunder.
However, some don't believe in this rule. According to Dean Handspiker, the two colors can still work together provided that it's "intentional and perfectly polished." Otherwise, if the user doesn't consider the details, fit and fabric then one will "look like you got dressed in the dark."
