Katy Perry Covers 'Vogue:' Russell Brand And John Mayer Are 'Broken Birds,' She Says In Revealing Interview [PHOTO]

Katy Perry is on the cover of the latest issue of Vogue magazine, and she opens up about her relationships with exes Russell Brand and John Mayer. Perry and Brand, a 35-year-old British comedian, married in 2010 in India with a traditional Indian wedding procession, known as the "bharat," but they split up 14 months later.

In a surprising confession, the 28-year-old beauty admits that Brand asked for a divorce in the form of a text message on New Year’s Eve in 2011. They haven't spoken since. “He's a very smart man, a magical man and I was in love with him when I married him. Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011,” Perry tells Vogue writer Vicki Woods.

While the reason for the split was never disclosed, there were rumors that Brand cheated on Perry during their marriage -- but Perry hints that her success in the music industry may have intimidated him.

“I have to claim my own responsibility in things," she said. "I do admit that I was on the road a lot. Although I invited him time and time again, and I tried to come home as much as I possibly could. At first when I met him he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they're like, ‘I can't handle it.’”

She recalled “He didn't like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful.”

“I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending," she added, "but then I found out the real truth, which I can't necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day. I let go and I was like, ‘This isn't because of me; this is beyond me.’ So I have moved on from that.”

After Brand, she moved on with Mayer, though they split this year.

In April, Mayer spoke vaguely about the split to talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. “It was a very private relationship going in," he said, "it was a private relationship during, and it’s a very private relationship still … I finally learned how to put the wall between one thing and another. Coupling is a tricky thing.”

Perry confirmed in Vogue that the relationship has run its course. “It's over ... I was madly in love with him. I still am madly in love with him. All I can say about that relationship is that he's got a beautiful mind. Beautiful mind, tortured soul. I do have to figure out why I am attracted to these broken birds.”

She also admitted that she's now single. "I'm not in a relationship, I'm just on my own—I am myself in my own bed. I have to be happy being alone, and I am happy."
