Katy Perry’s ‘Witness’ Album: Everything We Know About The New Record So Far
It’s been nearly four years since Katy Perry last released an album, but this June, the singer will finally put out her long-awaited record, “Witness.” After debuting the album’s first single, “Chained to the Rhythm” in February, it was clear that Perry’s style had changed.
Sporting a different look than previous years, Perry said the old her is gone. “It’s all kind of beautiful. I built up Katy Perry and she was so fun. And I still am Katy Perry and I love her so much but, at the core, I’m Katheryn Hudson and I think that’s being revealed as I embrace who I really am,” she told Entertainment Weekly. Before Perry’s new album releases, check out everything we know about it below:
The Album Will Release On June 9
Having last released an album in 2013, Perry took a break in 2015 after the end of her Prismatic World Tour, telling E! News that she needed to take a break to take care of her mental health. The singer got back to writing music in June 2016 and will release her fifth studio album on June 9.
Four Songs Have Been Confirmed For The Tracklist
While the full tracklist for “Witness” has yet to be released, four songs for Perry’s new album have already been confirmed. The album’s singles, “Chained to the Rhythm” and “Bon Appétit” (featuring Migos), will appear on the record, while “Swish Swish” and “Bigger Than Me” will also be featured. “Swish Swish” was described by Perry as a “fun dance song” while “Bigger Than Me” was written in response to Hillary Clinton losing the 2016 presidential election.
The Album’s Artwork Has Been Revealed
Continuing with the body horror theme that was presented in the “Bon Appétit” music video, the cover for “Witness” is sure to turn some heads. On the cover, Perry sports her new short hairstyle while covering her eyes with both of her hands, but another eye can be seen inside Katy’s mouth.
The Album Will Include Around 15 Tracks
In May, the singer told EW she had written about 40 songs for the album but had narrowed the tracklist down to 15. “It’s really quite brave,” she said of the album’s sound. “Sonically, it’s fun and dance-y and dark and light. It’s all of these things. It definitely is a change.”
She Will Be Going On Tour To Support The Album
Katy Perry’s Witness: The Tour will kick off on Sept. 7 in Columbus, Ohio and run until 2018. The first and only announced leg of the tour will feature 43 stops across North America. The pop star also announced her shows will feature a section called “The Drop Zone” -- a danceable area in the general admission section.
But before Perry goes on tour, the singer will appear on the season finale of “Saturday Night Live” as the musical guest. Expect the singer to perform “Bon Appétit” and perhaps premiere a new song.
