Kim Kardashian Calls Balenciaga Ad 'Disturbing'; Says She Is 'Re-Evaluating' Her Relationship With Brand
Kim Kardashian has broken her silence on the controversial Balenciaga ad campaign that was accused of sexualizing children.
The ad from the luxury fashion house showed photos of kids holding bears that were dressed in bondage outfits. Kardashian, who frequently collaborates with the brand, spoke about the controversial ad Sunday.
The 42-year-old media personality explained why she remained "quiet" for a few days before sharing her disappointment with the ad campaign.
"I have been quiet for the past few days, not because I haven't been disgusted and outraged by the recent Balenciaga campaigns, but because I wanted an opportunity to speak to their team to understand for myself how this could have happened," she tweeted.
Kardashian went on to share that she was "shaken by the disturbing images" as she herself is a mother of four kids. She shared North, 9, Saint, 6, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 3, with ex-husband Kanye West.
"The safety of children must be held with the highest regard, and any attempts to normalize child abuse of any kind should have no place in our society — period," Kardashian said.
In the same thread, the mother of four also mentioned that she appreciates Balenciaga for removing the campaign from all platforms and issuing an apology.
"In speaking with them, I believe they understand the seriousness of the issue and will take the necessary measures for this to never happen again," she wrote.
Kardashian noted she is "currently re-evaluating" her relationship with the brand for future collaborations.
"As for my future with Balenciaga, I am currently re-evaluating my relationship with the brand, basing it off their willingness to accept accountability for something that should have never happened to begin with — & the actions I am expecting to see them take to protect children," she added.
The company apologized for its ad last week after receiving backlash.
Following the apology, many social media users said the company should have taken apt steps at the ad's review stage itself.
Kardashian has been a brand ambassador for the company for over several years now. The company cut ties with her ex-husband over his antisemitic remarks in October.
