  • The KKW Beauty mogul was slammed for her "tone-deaf" posts

Kim Kardashian celebrated her 40th birthday by flying her close friends and family to an undisclosed island despite the pandemic. This ostentatious display didn’t sit well with some social media users.

On Tuesday, Kardashian, who turned 40 on Oct. 21, took to Instagram and Twitter to share snaps from the getaway with her inner circle. In the post, the KKW Beauty mogul said that she couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate her special day than to be with the people who matter most to her.

“Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment,” Kardashian captioned a series of snaps from the bash. “After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time.”

The reality star went on to share that she and her loved ones enjoyed fun activities such as riding bikes, swimming with whales, kayaking, dancing and watching films on the island.

Concluding her post, Kardashian admitted that she is aware that most people do not have the privilege of being able to travel and celebrate as they did during the pandemic.

“I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is,” Kardashian wrote.

Although Kardashian may have acknowledged her privilege, a number of netizens took offense to her “tone-deaf” posts and chided the reality star for being insensitive to the current state of the world. Disappointed people took to social media to sound off on the matter.

"Very selfish when people are dying and losing their jobs .... also doubt it very much that all 20+ people that attended isolated prior [sic],” one commented on Kardashian’s Instagram post.

“Flying to a private island is out [of] reach to most of us, Kim regardless of covid or not,” another added.

“Read the room Kim,” a third fan wrote.

One Twitter user commented, “just want to thank Kim Kardashian for providing this excellent example for my talk tonight on why we need to tax the rich.”

Others, however, appear to have no problem with how Kardashian celebrated her birthday this year.

“people are really mad at her for spending her money? like i’m not the biggest fan of kim but if i had as much money as she did i would 100% be spending it on stuff like that. you can’t expect her to live like she earns minimum wage when she literally has billions of dollars,” a Twitter user wrote.
