La La Anthony Files For Divorce From Carmelo Anthony After Living Apart For A Year

La La Anthony is making a legal move to officially end her marriage to Carmelo Anthony, a report has revealed.

La La, 41, has filed for divorce from her husband, Carmelo, after almost 11 years of marriage, People reported. She submitted the divorce papers in New York Thursday.

In the court documents obtained by TMZ, La La cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their divorce. The exes remain good friends after being together for 16 years. Sources told TMZ that the pair wanted to take their time and ensure a private and smooth transition in their relationship for their 14-year-old son, Kiyan, who remains their top priority.

La La and Carmelo have been living separately for over a year already. They first split in April 2017 but reunited in late 2018. People learned that they have been living apart since July 2019 after she sought legal guidance on how to move forward with their relationship.

"As La La and Carmelo have been living apart for quite some time, La La is proceeding with legal discussions as the next step in their relationship," La La's rep said at the time.

La La and Carmelo's representatives have not responded to People's request for comment about their divorce.

When La La and Carmelo split in 2017, the "Power" star was asked if she was divorcing her husband following their split. The "Think Like A Man" star said she had no plans as she was still open for a reconciliation at the time.

"Not right now. You know marriages are tough … it’s filled with ups and downs. We are just going through a time right now," La La said on "The Wendy Williams Show." "Him and I are the best of friends and our No. 1 commitment is to our son Kiyan, and we have to set an example for Kiyan and that's what's most important to me."

Despite going through a marital crisis four years ago, La La had nothing but praises for Carmelo as a father to their son.

"That’s my son’s father and he is an amazing dad. I could not ask for a better dad," she said.

La La and Carmelo tied the knot in Cipriani's in New York in 2010. Several celebrities attended their star-studded wedding, including Kim Kardashian, Serena Williams and Ciara. Several NBA stars were also present like LeBron James and Amar'e Stoudemire, Fox Sports reported.
