Leopard Jumps Inside A House And Takes Away Pet Dog [Video]
A viral video of a leopard jumping into a house in India and taking away the pet dog has left many people concerned.
A CCTV footage of the incident shows a dog barking at an iron gate repeatedly. At one point, the dog appears scared of something behind the door. It then tries to run away. The next second a leopard jumps over the iron gate and into the house. It seizes the dog within seconds and escapes back into the night.
The video shared by IFS officer Parveen Kaswan has since gone viral on social media and has over a hundred thousand views.
"See that leopard. Others don’t stand a chance," wrote Kaswan on Twitter. Kaswan came across the video on WhatsApp where it was being circulated by users, Hindusthan Times reported.
"This is unusual sight for some. But in many regions including hilly areas Leopards usually hunt dogs. So local people keep a iron collar over their pets. Which save them. Also in many regions stray dogs are huge trouble for leopards," he added in another tweet.
According to some Twitter users, the incident allegedly occurred in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, The India Express reported.
The video saddened some viewers and many debated whether it was right to leave a pet out of the house at night.
"People living in areas vulnerable to big wild cats need to keep dogs and pets indoors at night. This is just so sad. With depleting count of small animals and wild cover, these cats encroach on human habitations, and dogs or pets are easy prey," Karuna Sanghvi, a Twitter user was quoted as saying by the outlet.
In recent months, there have been several incidents of leopards approaching urban areas in search of food. Earlier this month, a leopard wandered into a school in India and attacked a few students. The feline was caught on camera loitering around in the classroom.
In September, a 55-year-old woman from Mumbai was sitting near her house at night when a leopard attacked her. She fought off the feline with her cane as the animal tried to drag her away.
