Lil Mama Defends Chris Brown, Says Singer Needs To Be Forgiven
Rapper Lil Mama is tired of the way Chris Brown gets treated and wants to see more people forgive the R&B star. During a recent interview, Lil Mama got emotional when talking about Brown, saying he’s being constantly attacked.
“Look at Chris Brown — [there is] always a rock being thrown at him to the point where maybe his heart hardened,” she said while appearing on the Flip Da Script podcast. When one of the show’s co-host brought up the fact that Brown had previously assaulted Rihanna, Lil Mama fired back.
“You’ve done things in your past that’s not on the record because you didn’t have the fame at the age of 15,” she said. “You and your loved ones and your close friends… they forgive you for it. Imagine the whole world not forgiving you for something you did.”
As tears began to fill her eyes, Lil Mama then made a plea to everyone, saying, “We gotta learn how to forgive each other… Do we really forgive each other? Do we really get to a place where we wanna know how somebody is feeling? I think we don’t.”
After a clip of Lil Mama’s interview was posted on Instagram by The Shade Room, Chris Brown reposted the video, showing his support for the rapper.
Since attacking then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, Brown has been arrested twice and went to rehab two times. According to a report from Billboard, the singer has been in a downward spiral since then and is heavily involved with drugs.
“Lately, says a former employee who was accustomed to scenes like this, Brown had trouble sleeping in his master bedroom upstairs and would instead watch sci-fi movies all through the night,” Billboard reported.
“Empty Styrofoam cups littered the table, a sign that Brown — who hadn’t been taking his medication for the bipolar II condition he had been diagnosed with in 2014 — had likely also been sipping lean (a mixture of promethazine/codeine syrup and a soft drink), his comedown of choice after a coke or Molly binge,” the report continued.
While Brown doesn’t often do interviews anymore, the singer had previously opened up to Hot 97 about his drug use and his relationship with Rihanna. According to Brown, he and Rihanna “made amends.” The singer said, “I knew that was a mistake I would never do again. I look back at it like I was 17-18 and I’m 25 now, so I look back at it like, ‘dang.’”
As for the drug use, Brown admitted to taking Xanax and drinking lean but said he was done with that. “I was off the syrup, the Xanax — that’s the hood cocktail. I was falling asleep on video sets, I was cussing people out randomly. I was doing crazy stuff.”
He added, “This ain’t for me. As time progressed I was like let me chill out. I don’t want to be a zombie when I meet people. Or say the wrong thing, or end up punching somebody or doing something crazy because I was under the influence of some bull.”
