Lili Reinhart opened up about one of the instances when she decided to strip down for a scene on the hit TV show “Riverdale.” The actress revealed that she only agreed to do the scene because she wanted to help others who do not embrace their bodies.
Speaking in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the 23-year-old Hollywood star shared some specific details about a particular scene in Season 4 where she was seen in just her bra and underwear. The star noted that she felt really insecure about doing that particular scene because she does not have the ideal body to do such kind of scenes.
Reinhart also explained that she “did not want” to do that scene but decided to stay mum because it was “her job.” She also made it clear that “no one” pressured her to perform that scene.
“I don’t have the CW girl body -- tiny waist, nice-shaped legs, skinny, small, tiny. I had to do a bra and underwear scene in this last season and I felt really insecure about it. I really, really didn’t want to do it. I didn’t tell anyone this. I wasn’t pressured into doing it. I did it because it was my job,” Reinhart said.
Later in the interview, the “Hustlers” star explained that she felt bad about doing the scene but she still went on to do it because it was important for her to raise awareness about body positivity. The star said that she did it for the people who believe they need to “look a certain way.”
“I can’t preach body positivity if I don’t practice it. So even if I’m not feeling amazing about my body, I felt it was important for me to do the scene anyway in my bra and underwear so people could see my body as it was. I did it for the people who feel like they need to look a certain way,” the LA Times quoted Reinhart, as saying.
Reinhart also encouraged other people to get out of the world of Victoria’s Secret and Instagram because that is not how the real world looks like.
“You go on Instagram, and I’m like, 'Oh, look, all these people with these beautifully toned bodies' and then go to the beach -- does anyone on the beach in the real world look like that? I don’t see anyone looking like this . Instagram and Victoria’s Secret runways are not a portrayal of how people look in real life,” Reinhart said during the interview.
Her recent comments come almost a week after she opened up about her struggles with mental health issues and slammed a publication for linking her statements to her breakup with Cole Sprouse even when they were about “depression.”
