Lilly Collins spoke about her character in "Emily in Paris" and revealed her possible age. However, her fans were not convinced of her explanation on Emily's age.
Collins spoke with Vogue and answered several burning questions from fans who watched the romantic-comedy series on Netflix. When asked about Emily's age, the "Love, Rosie" star shared her theory.
"I don’t believe we’ve ever given her a specific ‘number’ for her age, but I believe that she’s pretty fresh out of college," Collins told Vogue.
"Maybe this is her first year after graduation. I want to say she’s like, 22-ish. She’s had enough experience at her company in Chicago to have earned the respect of her boss. "
Shortly after her interview landed online, many took to Twitter and called her out because they didn't agree with her. Most of them were convinced that her character in "Emily in Paris" was older than 22.
"Excuse me but Emily is supposed to be 22?! And get that job transfer to Paris fresh out of college? Alrighty then," Tara Bitran, an entertainment writer for The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, tweeted.
"Honey she most certainly is NOT," Ira Madison III, host of “Keep It” podcast, wrote.
"Emily has a MASTER’S DEGREE she is not 22!!!! Lily Collins plz," he added. "'I got a master’s at 22!!!' Did you do that and then years of experience to be mid level at a marketing firm... or did not know anything about the show I’m referencing and you just felt the need to respond."
Another netizen seemingly disagreed with Collins saying she wasn't sure how to tell the actress that a 22-year-old with a master's degree and relevant work experience is either a genius who graduated college at 18, or she is lying about Emily's age.
Meanwhile, another said Collins’ calculation of Emily's age made the show "suck even more." Rachel E. Greenspan also believed the age Collins gave didn't make sense because Emily already said she was a marketing executive with a master's degree.
However, many also defended the actress because she mentioned that the age was not in the script and the age she gave was her personal opinion.
“'I want to say she's like…' is certainly one way to start what should be a definitive answer from a professional to a simple question about their job,” one wrote in Collins’ defense.
"Also...not to nitpick but like...this is never mentioned in the script!?!" Sam Greisman added.
