Disney released the trailer for its upcoming animated film “Encanto” on Thursday, which features music written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Following the debut of the trailer, Miranda’s fans began defending the “Hamilton” creator on Twitter after he was criticized for his involvement in the film.

“Encanto” is set in Columbia and tells the story of a family who has magical powers, except for one member, Mirabel, voiced by Stephanie Beatriz.

Despite their unique abilities like manipulating nature and super strength, when Mirabel learns their powers are under threat, she realizes she may be the only person who can save them.

While the plot fits the bill for the typical animated Disney film, many continued to criticize Miranda over the release of his movie “In the Heights,” which was released in June.

On Thursday, Miranda’s name became a trending topic on Twitter due to a wave of backlash over the release of “Encanto.” However, his fans rallied to his defense and praised the Tony Award winner for his creativity.

“Let me get this straight: we have a fantastic creator in Lin Manuel Miranda and some Latinos have decided that we should dunk him cause he is prolific and then complain in the next tweet no one is creating content for us. Por Dios,” one person wrote.

Another person suggested people would eventually realize they were wrong to criticize Miranda so harshly. “The discourse has turned so against Lin Manuel Miranda that within a year there’s gonna be a Linaissance where everybody is gonna say they thought he got too much hate,” the individual wrote.

Following the release of “In The Heights,” the Latin community accused Miranda of colorism after failing to cast Afro-Latino actors with darker skin colors in lead roles for the film.

Miranda later apologized for not showing a true representation of the demographics in New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood and promised to do better in the future.

Many celebrities have since voiced their support for Miranda to continue his work and criticized naysayers.

“Encanto” is scheduled to be released in November.
