KEY POINTS

  • "Love For Sale" is a follow-up to "Cheek To Cheek"
  • It was the first collaborative project between Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga
  • The album is the second and final collaboration between the two musicians

The second collaborative project between legendary artist Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga “Love For Sale” easily landed the top spot at the Traditional jazz albums and overall jazz albums charts of Billboard.

The album is Bennett’s 15th No. 1 on the traditional jazz albums chart. He is followed closely by 54-year-old Harry Connick Jr., who has the most No. 1 tracks in the traditional jazz albums tally in the 54-year history of the chart, according to Billboard.

Apart from the jazz charts, the album also clinched the eighth spot on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.

The official music video of “Love For Sale” premiered on YouTube on Sept. 18 and is now nearing the 1 million mark in views.

The music video opens with a close-up shot of musical instruments and the song's music sheet that is promptly followed by Lady Gaga's words, "I'm singing with Tony B!" Bennett laughs just a second before the first note of the track drops.

"Love For Sale" is a collection of covers of songs written by Cole Porter including “Night And Day,” “I Get a Kick Out Of You” and “It’s De-Lovely.”

“Love For Sale” follows Bennett and Lady Gaga’s first collaborative album, “Cheek To Cheek” which reached No. 1 on all the abovementioned charts in 2014 and also won a Grammy Award for Best traditional pop vocal album in 2015.

Lady Gaga described the making of “Love For Sale” as a “gift” considering the 95-year-old musician’s declining health.

"It was a gift," the pop star told USA Today on Oct. 4. "It's a gift that I will hold in my heart 'til my last breath. My time with Tony has changed me forever. Frank Sinatra said he was the best singer in the world and I don't think Frank lied."

Lady Gaga, who is also known as Stefani Germanotta, added that the recording process for “Love For Sale,” her second and last album with Bennett, was emotional due to the nonagenarian’s health condition.

"It's hard to even talk about," Gaga told the oulet. But "it's important during times like this to be authentic and share the pain of the realities of what it's like to have a loved one have Alzheimer's or dementia. I really extend my heart to people who are going through a similar situation."

“Love For Sale” is Bennett’s sixth top 10 album on the Billboard 200 and Lady Gaga’s 10th top 10 on the same chart.
