Madonna Badger Suicide: Connecticut Christmas Fire Survivor Tries to Kill Herself
Madonna Badger attempted suicide last week, according to CBS2 news. Badger, who lost her three children and her parents in the Connecticut Christmas fire, was one of only two survivors from the deadly Christmas blaze. She was hospitalized last week after injuring herself in an attempt to kill herself and end her terrible pain.
She is okay. . . . She is out (of the hospital) and somewhere safe, one relative said. It's just terrible - nobody could really hold up well under the circumstances.
Madonna Badger lost 9-year-old Lily and 7-year-old twins Grace and Sarah on Christmas Day when embers from a burning yule log ignited a blaze that quickly consumed the entire house. Her parents, Lomer and Pauline Johnson, also died.
When I used to hear about people losing a child, I would say I could never, ever, ever live through losing my babies, Badger said in her children's eulogy.
There reportedly were no working smoke detectors in the house, which was currently being remodeled by Michael Borcina, the other survivor of the blaze. All of the fire extinguishers were stored in the garage as well.
One relative told the Daily News that she is not surprised that Badger tried to commit suicide. She seemed to be coping better at the funeral, better than I ever could, the relative said. But once all of that is gone and you're left to face what's happened, it's terrible, she added.
