Man Arrested For Having Sex With Dog After Video Of Act Surfaces

A 67-year-old man in India was arrested for having sex with a female stray dog after an animal welfare organization submitted a video of the incident to authorities.

The incident took place in the western city of Mumbai. According to the police, Bombay Animal Rights organization submitted the video in which the accused can be seen performing the unnatural act.

"The accused Ahmed Shahi, who resides alone, used to commit such crimes. In the past, the local residents had warned him against doing so," a senior official from a nearby police precinct said, India.com reported.

An unidentified resident of the area told the police he had seen the accused committing the crime in the past, and added he asked the non-profit for animals to look into the matter.

“I received a call from a resident of Juhu galli, who told me there is a man in their area who rapes street dogs. The man said he has a video shot in December 2020, where the accused is caught on camera raping the dog. I asked him why he did not complain to the police earlier… the man said he knew the accused and had warned him not to repeat the act, but the accused kept repeating it and hence, he informed me about it,” Indian Express quoted Vijay Mohnani of Bombay Animal Rights as saying to the police.

The animal activist said the accused was a vegetable vendor in the area.

“Persons from Shahi’s family had beat up the person who had shot the video and broken his phone,” Mohnani said, adding they were lucky the video was still available on one device, which helped the police nab the accused, Indian Express reported.

Based on the evidence submitted, the police filed a complaint against the accused and arrested him under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code, including 377 (unnatural sex) and others.

In a similar incident, a man killed a dog after having sex with the canine in Kenya last year. The man, identified as 35-year-old Boniface Mutuku, took the dog to a homestead and sexually assaulted it several times. He then killed the animal by choking it. The incident sparked anger among the local residents who then tried to lynch the man before the police arrived at the scene. The man was under the influence of drugs when he committed the crime, reports said at the time.
