Man Held Captive, Tortured With Hammer, Gas Burner And Knife

An Australian man went through a night of horror when another man held him captive and tortured him with a hammer, a gas burner and a knife, police have said.

The police arrested a 38-year-old man from Queensland, Australia, Thursday for assaulting and torturing the 30-year-old victim. Authorities have not released the identities of both men.

The alleged assault happened around 6:30 p.m. on April 4. The victim was initially beaten up in the front yard the house he was visiting in Upper Coomera. The accused then dragged him forcibly to his property, held him against his will and tortured him all night using various instruments, including a hammer, a gas burner and a knife, reported Adelaide Now.

The victim managed to escape the accused man's property the following morning. After the ordeal, he sought medical attention for his injuries that were non-life-threatening, Sydney Morning Herald said in a report.

Taskforce Maxima officers executed a warrant at an address in Redbank Plains on Thursday and the assaulter was nabbed.

The accused was charged with four counts of assault causing bodily harm and two counts of armed robbery and deprivation of liberty, one count each of torture and possessing dangerous drugs and utensils. He was granted bail and is scheduled to appear in court April 30.

According to the police, the two men knew each other. They also said that they are continuing their investigation into the incident.

In a similar incident, a 21-year-old university student in Leeds, a city in northern England, was abducted, robbed, held captive and tortured on Oct. 17, 2019. The victim was on a night out when a criminal gang kidnapped him, forced him to hand over his card and reveal his PIN. Members of the gang burned his face, body and arms with cigarette buds. They also asked him to swallow tablets, drink vodka and smoke cannabis.
