  • They parted ways in July following a series of arguments
  • Rabelo went ahead with the lavish wedding, that reportedly cost him $62,000

Remember the Nicollette Sheridan-starrer television movie "Honeymoon for One" where the protagonist set out for her honeymoon alone after getting ditched by her fiancé? Much along the lines of the movie, a Brazilian man took the idea of self-love a notch higher by getting married to himself in an extravagant ceremony after his fiancée dumped him.

Dr. Diogo Rabelo, 33, and his fiancée, Vitor Bueno, got engaged last year and the couple was scheduled to exchange vows in a fancy beach wedding on Oct. 17. However, things didn't go as planned as Bueno, in July, suddenly decided to part ways with him following a series of arguments, local media outlets reported.

In such a situation, couples have to do the inevitable, which is to call off the wedding but Rabelo decided to go ahead with the celebrations anyway. Video footage from the event showed him saying "I do" to his reflection in a mirror. The footage, shared on Instagram, has since gone viral, racking up more than 209,000 views.

The ceremony, which took place in a luxury resort in Itacaré, in the northern Brazilian state of Bahia, cost Rabelo around $62,000 (350,000 Brazilian real). Local reports said 40 of the original invitees attended the event, barring those from Bueno's side.

Rabelo, who specializes in cosmetic procedures such as Botox and facial fillers, described the day as the happiest day of his life. "Today is one of the happiest days of my life, as I'm with the people I love the most in this life, celebrating what could be a tragedy, but I made it a comedy," he said.

He also shared several other photos from the occasion, in which he appeared happy as he stood surrounded by his close friends and family members.

Speaking to local publication Globo, Rabelo said he made the decision to get the message across that his happiness doesn't depend on marriage.

"I analyzed the situation for a month, and decided that I had to appreciate and love myself. I kept the ceremony and 40 of my 50 guests came," he told the publication. "The message I wanted to send to people with this marriage of mine is not that of a victim, I do not depend on a marriage to be happy."
