KEY POINTS

  • West Ham us looking to boost the defensive side by adding Aaron Wan-Bissaka on a loan deal
  • The Hammers have signed Luizao for added defense
  • Wan-Bissaka hopes to get more opportunities with West Ham if a loan deal suffices

West Ham United has little room to wiggle in after splurging on several players.

Hence, the January transfer window may not see the Hammers be that active although they can still try.

After making a huge splurge last summer, West Ham has hardly gained ground as they sit just above the relegation zone and David Moye may have to check the market to see who they can snag in January.

One target suggested by the Manchester Evening News is reportedly Aaron Wan-Bissaka of Manchester United.

Ironically, this would not be the first time they would be linked to the right-back since Wan-Bissaka was a target last summer.

Wan-Bissaka has hardly gotten playing time with the Red Devils, and a move to West Ham could make sense.

His defense would be of use to Moyes and company, an opportunity that would also help him get his career back on track.

The English right-back could also fill the void left by Vladimir Coufal.

The 30-year-old Czech player is allegedly no longer part of Moye's plans, and there is a growing belief that Coufal could leave the Hammers next month.

Wan-Bissaka is valued at £45 million ($54.8 million), but the Hammers are allegedly only keen on a loan deal.

Moyes has not figured out his right-back rotation this season with Coufal, Ben Johnson and Thilo Kehrer failing to fit in nicely.

It could be the chance for the English footballer to show his stuff and possibly get more playing time as well.

The Hammers made a huge investment last summer, bringing in the likes of Nayef Aguerd, Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta to the London Stadium.

All were handed considerable fees, but the move has yet to translate into the results that Moyes and the Hammers were hoping for.

In other moves, West Ham has reportedly signed Brazilian defender Luizao from Sao Paulo for an undisclosed fee.

He is set to officially join the Hammers on January 1, but this will still depend on whether the 20-year-old footballer can secure international clearance.

Luizao has reportedly agreed to a deal until 2026 and will be initially joining the development squad.

It will be interesting if this would alter the alleged Wan-Bissaka links.

"Everyone at West Ham United would like to welcome Luizao to the club and wish him every success in his career in claret and blue," West Ham said in a statement.
