'Married At First Sight: The First Year’ Spoilers: One Wife Questions If Her Marriage Will Last In The Season 2 Premiere [RECAP]
The second year of marriage might not be as smooth as the first. “Married At First Sight: The First Year” Season 2 kicked off and caught up with the couples from “Married at First Sight” Season 1, and it looks like the roles have reversed on the FYI reality show. Cortney Hendrix and Jason Carrion had a difficult first year of marriage, but they seem to be to the same page now. Doug Hehner and Jamie Otis, however, are going through a rough patch, and Jamie doesn’t seem sure of her future.
Jamie And Doug
Doug admits that they’ve had their ups and downs, but they seem to be in a good place now. Jamie legally changed her last name to Hehner, and she is ready to take the next step in their relationship. Just like last season, she is still trying to convince Doug to have a baby.
Jamie’s sister Lea is pregnant, and that makes her talk about having babies even more. Doug says he doesn’t want to have a child yet, and he creates a checklist of things he wants to do before becoming a father. The list is a little absurd. He wants to live with an African tribe and go ghost-hunting.
His wife is annoyed and says that they’ve been growing apart lately. “Since Doug and I renewed our vows in St. Thomas, we just started kind of pulling away from each other,” Jamie admits. “And I really want us both to be on the same page, but if you tell me that you don’t ever want to have kids, that is something that we won’t get over.”
Doug is still trying to make his wife happy, though. He has a special surprise planned for Jamie’s birthday. He sends her on a treasure hunt through the house as soon as she wakes up. She finally gets to the garage and finds that Doug bought two bikes for them. She is completely surprised and loves the gift. Later, they go on a bike ride and Doug plans a picnic with cupcakes. Jamie reveals to the cameras that her birthday wish was for Doug to be ready for a baby by next year.
Doug’s parents came over for dinner, and they say that Doug’s pre-baby bucket list is absurd. Jamie is glad someone agrees that he is being a little immature. Jamie worries about Doug’s level of maturity in general. She feels that her husband couldn’t be serious. He is good at romance and flirting, but they can’t talk about serious things together.
Jamie meets up with Monet Bell to go lingerie shopping, and Jamie seems to still feel a little self conscious around her husband. She reveals that she didn’t even want to get changed in front of her husband until they were married for a year, and she turns down a couple of Monet’s more risqué ideas about how to surprise her husband.
Eventually, Jamie opens up and tells Monet about her marital problems. She says that they’re having trouble communicating, and Monet thinks that they should talk to a professional about it. “Sometimes it’s like are we gonna actually make it? Or are we … I don’t know,” Jamie says.
Cortney And Jason
Cortney reveals that she has changed as a person. She isn’t letting any more negativity into her life, and she says that her marriage is stronger than ever after renewing their vows in Las Vegas. However, their relationship will be tested again while Cortney’s job takes her out of state. She is doing special-effects makeup for a movie that is filming in Connecticut, so she sees Jason only on the weekends.
Jason is still a firefighter, but he can add "model" to his resume. He posed shirtless for the cover of the 2016 New York firefighters calendar. Cortney says she isn’t jealous, but she doesn’t like when women are “all over” her husband.
While his wife is out of town, Jason hangs out with his friend Neph Rodriguez. Neph is still talking to Jasmine, a woman he met during their trip to Las Vegas. They’ve been talking for months, visited each other a few times and started a long-distance relationship. Jasmine is even moving from Texas to live with Neph, along with his mother and brothers. Jason and Cortney worry that he is moving too fast. However, Cortney and Jason got married the day they met, so they can’t really comment.
The married couple worries that Jasmine will have trouble adjusting. She is moving to New York only for Neph, and that concerns them. “You can’t rely on your partner or your spouse to be your source of happiness,” Cortney says.
Neph reveals that he and Jasmine have met only four or five times in person, but they talk every day. On a Skype call, Jasmine admits that she is nervous about the move, but she was still sure of her decision. “I’ll have you. That’s all that matters,” Jasmine said.
“Married at First Sight: The First Year” Season 2 airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EDT on FYI.
