‘Married At First Sight’ Season 4 Spoilers: A Husband Mentions Divorce On His Honeymoon In Episode 4 [RECAP]
Honeymoons aren’t exactly smooth sailing when you’re strangers. In “Married at First Sight” Season 4, episode 4, the couples were in paradise, but they realized that this was a working vacation. They have to put a lot of effort into their new marriages. They all had their first fights in this episode of the FYI reality show, but they each handled it differently.
Lillian and Tom
Marriage is going well for Lillian Vilchez and Tom Wilson. The two consummated their marriage early in their honeymoon. “We’re husband and wife. It was going to happen and it was beautiful,” Lillian says. “I am very happy with how everything went last night.”
Tom and Lillian go to the beach, and Tom is sure to take his time applying sunscreen to his wife’s backside. They continue getting to know each other and spend the day at the beach. While they go swimming later, it starts raining. Lillian says that because of their wet wedding day, she thinks rain is a good omen now.
When they’re at dinner, Tom asks Lillian if she enjoyed last night. Lillian says that it was amazing, and she is happy they took their relationship to the next level. Tom agrees, and his wife admits to the cameras that she could see herself falling in love with him.
Tom still hasn’t told Lillian that he lives on a bus, and he’s nervous. Tom starts to tell his wife that he isn’t a person who can be made happy by material things. He brings up the example of people who buy new cars to make them happy. Lillian, who drives a new car, is offended because he saw her new ride after the wedding. Tom clarifies what he meant and Lillian quickly forgives him. However, he doesn’t manage to tell his wife that he lives on a tour bus.
Heather and Derek
Heather Seidel is concerned after learning that Derek Schwartz occasionally gambles and smokes, but she says she is ready to do the work. Still, they’re discovering even more of their differences. Heather asks Derek to be a little neater in their hotel room.
Derek seems happy with his wife, but he is a bit disappointed to report that he and Heather haven’t consummated their marriage yet.
Heather says she gets a “weird vibe” while riding bikes with Derek. He feels like they’re racing rather than relaxing. He feels the distance between them and confronts her about it.
She says she is concerned that he has smoked every day on this trip. He claims it’s because they’re on vacation. He doesn’t understand why she is so adamantly against it. He argues that alcohol is worse, but she says she doesn’t immediately have drink when she wakes up. Derek gets angry and walks away.
The couple spends some time apart to think. When they meet again in their hotel room, they discuss their feelings. Heather says she is heartbroken by where they are now because the wedding day was so smooth. Derek says he knows that they’re going to have conflict, but they need to work on their issues together.
Derek says their marriage is the most important thing to him. Heather questions his dedication if he chooses to start every day by smoking. She doesn’t think they can get to know each other when he is in “an altered state of mind.” Derek thinks she is being judgmental.
He thinks Heather is looking for perfection and says she is never going to find a perfect person. He calls her an alcoholic again, and Heather thinks the argument is just childish now. She says that it would be different if they’d gotten to know each other before the trip, but she has only gotten to know him after he has smoked.
“It’s like you’re from the ‘40s or something,” he says.
“If that means that I have morals and I’m classy and I’m happy with my life, then I’m comfortable with that,” she says.
Derek says she’ll need to make changes in her life too. “Whether it’s with me or whoever it’s gonna be when we get divorced, I hope that you are willing to find some sort of compromise, and you’re willing to understand that nobody is perfect out there,” he says. He claims she’ll be a lonely person if she doesn’t change.
Heather cries while talking to the cameras. She has been married for five days, and her relationship is already a mess.
Sonia and Nick
These two are still a little awkward. Sonia Granados and Nick Pendergrast are finding it easy to be silly, but they haven’t exactly been intimate. Sonia really wants to establish an emotional connection before consummating their marriage.
They go paddle boarding, and Sonia is a little afraid of the water. Sonia appreciates that Nick is watching out for her in the water, but it turns out she has more skill on the board. She also notes that she appreciates her husband’s body. She didn’t realize how fit he was when she first met him.
Sonia says that Nick isn’t physically on her all the time, but he’s always emotionally present with her. She has confidence that their relationship could grow into something special.
The newlyweds go horseback riding to find a waterfall. The trip is very romantic, and the two share a kiss. “It feels right. It’s just perfect,” Sonia says.
During an intimate dinner, Sonia tells Nick that she really likes him and is glad they were matched. Nick agrees with her and says he doesn’t feel awkward with her anymore. “I feel like it’s been so normal, like we’ve known each other for a really long time,” Nick says.
They have homework to get to after dinner: their pillow talk activities from the experts. It’s just some discussion questions that force the couples to communicate and get to know each other more.
During their pillow talk activity, Sonia and Nick both say that they like each other. Nick says they are going slow and he thinks that’s how it should be. Sonia questions if he brought up pace because she is too pushy, and he assures her that he’s fine with how things are going. She’s reading too much into it, and Nick wonders what’s really bothering her. Sonia says it doesn’t matter and refuses to talk.
Nick can tell that something is wrong, but she won’t discuss it. She’s upset, so her husband gives her a little space. “I really don’t want to be around him,” Sonia tells the cameras. “Kind of over him.”
When Nick comes back, he apologizes and Sonia forgives him. She knows that they both share the blame for their misunderstanding, but she doesn’t want to talk about exactly what was bothering her yet. She still wants to gather her thoughts.
