Marvel’s “The Eternals” has only become an official project last month, but the details about the movie are already surfacing one by one. One of the movie’s key players aside from the titular Eternals themselves are the Celestials — gigantic, planet-hopping beings that play a part in creating the Eternals.

According to Digital Spy, details about Angelina Jolie’s heroic character Thena or Richard Madden’s character Ikaris haven’t been revealed yet. But the Celestials come first in a poster that was created for the San Diego Comic-Con 2019. It was an exclusive poster which was given out during the event.

Meanwhile, Marvel President Kevin Feige explained who the Eternals are. He said that the Eternals are a unique group of individuals from them and that this movie was going to be an “ensemble” movie. It will not be similar to what they did with the Avengers, which was to build the group through a span of movies, starting from “The Avengers” and ending with “Avengers: Endgame.”

The Eternals, Gamesradar reported, is probably going to be a “strange” and “alien” group to many fans, similar to how the Guardians of the Galaxy started out. In the comic book world, however, these superheroes have been around for a long time, with their arrival in the MCU hinted at through one cameo here or a mention of their names there.

The connection between the Celestials and the Eternals is through their creation by the former. The Celestials are considered Space Gods in the Marvel universe, and their visit to Earth five million years ago produced two “proto-human” race — the Eternals and the Deviants. The Eternals are effectively immortal with resistance to extreme temperature, poison, and normal diseases affecting regular humans.

The Celestials have also been shown in the MCU before — the Guardians of the Galaxy’s base of operations is the head of “an ancient Celestial being.” Another Celestial was involved in a more important role. This Celestial is known as Eson the Searcher, shown wielding the Power Stone in a sequence in “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 1.”

Star-Lord’s father, Ego, was also revealed to be a Celestial. The Celestials’ powers are revealed through the nature of Ego’s powers such as the ability to “pollenate” a planet or father a race of half-Celestial children for his personal use. Each Celestials' power is of a different nature.

“The Eternals” will hit cinemas on November 6, 2020, and by that time, people will have more information of what the Celestials are, as well as the role they play in the lives of the Eternals.
