Meghan Markle was "disappointed" she didn't get to meet Kate Middleton when Prince Harry introduced her to his brother Prince William for the first time, according to a book.
Royal correspondents Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand revealed in their newly released biography about the Sussexes, "Finding Freedom," that Middleton didn't show up for the actress' introduction to the royal family.
"Meghan was disappointed she didn’t get to meet Kate, who was with the children at Anmer Hall, the couple’s Norfolk estate home near Sandringham," Scobie and Durand wrote.
"But having gotten along so well with Harry’s brother, she didn’t think much more about that," the authors continued. "William had made his feelings known to his brother when he shared how happy he was to see Harry smiling."
Prince Harry introduced his then-girlfriend to Prince William in November 2016 when he and Markle arrived at Kensington Palace for an informal tea. The three royals had tea in the kitchen away from the staff, the book said.
According to the authors, Markle had been nervous about meeting Prince William for the first time.
Previous reports claimed Prince Harry and Prince William had a falling-out due to Markle. The Duke of Sussex had been upset when his big brother advised him to slow down in his relationship with the former "Suits" star — an incident Scobie and Durand also discussed in their new book.
Before Prince Harry met and married Markle, he was regularly spotted with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. At times, he was even called Prince William and Middleton's third wheel.
The so-called "royal trio" were seen much less in royal engagements after Prince Harry married Markle, the two brothers eventually splitting their households to forge their own paths. The Sussexes have now bought what is believed to be their permanent home in California after stepping down from their positions as senior members of the royal family earlier this year.
According to royal expert Katie Nicholl, Prince Harry had always wanted to break free from his brother and sister-in-law and Markle simply gave him the opportunity to push forward with his plans
"I think Meghan has very much been the catalyst in giving him that confidence to break free from William and Kate, and to break free from that trio dynamic, which was at times cozy and convenient, but actually wasn't really what he wanted," Nicholl said.
