Meghan Markle Has A New Press Secretary; Duchess Goes Casual For Lunch
Meghan Markle has a new press secretary, and he made his public debut when he accompanied the Duchess of Sussex at her lunch in London.
Three days after making her first official visit to her newly announced patronage, Mayhew, Markle stepped out for a private lunch in west London. The 37-year-old was photographed in her black coat and jeans, but she still opted to wear heels during her outing.
Markle was dining with her and Prince Harry’s new deputy director of communications, Christian Jones. An onlooker that saw Markle and Jones claimed that the latter took down notes.
According to People, Jones was hired by Kensington Palace last month. He is tasked to manage communications not only for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex but also for Prince William and Kate Middleton. Jones will also support the Fab Four’s charitable efforts.
He formerly worked for the British government for almost seven years. He most recently served as a speechwriter and press secretary for the Department of Exiting the European Union.
Prior to Jones’ hiring, reports revealed that some of Markle’s royal aides have resigned. One of the “Suits” alum’s personal assistants resigned in November. Samantha Cohen, Markle and Prince Harry’s private secretary and chief of staff will also resign from her post after Markle gives birth.
The Duchess of Sussex is scheduled to welcome her and Prince Harry’s first child in the Spring. The baby’s sex and name will be announced after its arrival.
In related news, Markle was last seen visiting the dog charity Mayhew. While there, a bold well-wisher commented on Markle’s physical appearance since she is already 6 months pregnant.
“What a lovely lady you are, may God bless you. And you’re a fat lady,” Peggy McEachrom told the royal.
Markle wasn’t offended with the comment because she knows that she might have gained a few pounds during the first two trimesters of her pregnancy. She happily responded, “I’ll take it!”
