Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton received the same support when they married the royal family.
The Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex were often compared especially when the former just joined the royal family. At present, Prince Harry and Markle are no longer working royals.
According to royal biographer Katie Nicholl, the two duchesses were on an equal footing when they joined the Firm. Prince Harry and Prince William’s wives received the same training, but apparently, Markle didn’t adjust well.
“Both Meghan and Kate married into the royal family as commoners, albeit one as a well-known actress who was older and perhaps had more life experience, but they both married-in really not knowing the mechanisms of the royal family, protocols, everything that really needed to be learnt,” Nichol told Nine.com.au.
However, between the two, many believed that Markle would be able to handle the media better because of her former career. As a celebrity, she was used to being photographed and wasn’t new to the attention of the press.
However, according to Nicholl, Markle’s experience as a B-list actress didn’t help at all. She suddenly became a global personality which was incomparable with the Hollywood stage.
Nicholl acknowledged that Middleton had her own issues with the press, too. However, in Markle’s case, it seemed that she couldn’t do anything right.
Her nails, wardrobe and the way she touched her baby when she was pregnant were all met with criticisms. The former “Suits” star got candid during the Africa documentary when she opened up about her struggles as a first-time mom and a royal. During the interview, she said, “You’ve got to thrive, you’ve got to feel happy.”
Nicholl said that Markle struggled to adjust. Eventually, the royal couple stepped down from their duties and decided to leave the royal family.
According to reports, Prince Harry has been feeling homesick in Los Angeles, so he reconnected with his big brother Prince William. In another interview, Nicholl said the royals talk over the phone amid the outbreak.
Furthermore, for the first time in months, the Duke of Cambridge mentioned his younger brother in a post on Instagram. Many are convinced that things are getting better between Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ sons.
