Meghan Markle Likened To Wallis Simpson For These Reasons Other Than Divorce
Meghan Markle is being likened to Wallis Simpson due to a number of different reasons.
For one, both Markle and Simpson met their prince at the age of 34. Both women were also divorced when they met Prince Harry and King Edward VIII, respectively.
But unlike Markle and Prince Harry’s romance, which was widely accepted by the members of the royal family, Simpson and King Edward VIII’s affair caused a constitutional crisis. King Edward VIII abdicated in 1936 after less than a year so he could marry Simpson.
Other than their status as divorcees and meeting their prince at the age of 34, Markle and Simpson’s physical resemblance cannot also be denied. Frances Hardy of the Daily Mail said that both Markle and Simpson are “slender with delicate hands and have strikingly dark hair worn mostly in a center parting.”
“They’re stylish too. Wallis stuck to a muted palette of beige, taupe, and navy – while, with a few exceptions, chic Meghan also tends to shun bright colors. Wallis favored her designer Hubert de Givenchy, while Meghan chose a gown by the same fashion house for her wedding at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor, in May. Even the Rolls-Royce Phantom IV that to Meghan to her wedding was the same car that carried Wallis to her husband’s funeral at the venue 46 years earlier,” she Hardy noted.
However, Andrew Morton, the author of “Wallis In Love,” said that there is one cultural difference between Markle and Simpson.
“Meghan seems to have a sense of wanting to give back, whereas Wallis only ever wanted to take,” he said.
During an interview, Morton said that Markle also has strong public service credentials. She previously worked as a United Nations advocate for women’s empowerment and was also a global ambassador for the World Vision Canada relief agency.
“She could have been a diplomat, a politician, a lawyer. Meghan is certainly ready for the royal family: she’s proved herself,” Morton said.
