Meghan Markle Officially Leaves 'Suits' After Royal Engagement To Prince Harry
Meghan Markle has reportedly given up her role in "Suits" and left the USA Network series after announcing her engagement to Prince Harry.
On Monday, Markle and Prince Harry announced their engagement and soon became busy with interviews and photo calls. However, their engagement and upcoming wedding may not be the only big news Markle dropped as in one interview, the actress may have confirmed that she is bidding goodbye to her TV series on USA Network.
"Now it's time to work as a team [with Harry]," Markle said following the engagement announcement, reported TMZ, which pointed out that this may be Markle's way of announcing her departure from the series.
The network seems to be supportive of Markle's move, releasing a statement wishing her the best as she takes her relationship with Prince Harry to the next level. "Meghan has been a member of our family for seven years and it has been a joy to work with her. We want to thank her for her undeniable passion and dedication to 'Suits,' and we wish her the very best," USA Network said in a statement.
Months before Prince Harry and Markle announced their engagement, several sources were already convinced that the actress would be leaving the series. "No one gets the impression she's staying on the show much longer," an insider said. "They believe she's going to marry Harry."
According to another source, her departure would "boil down to security issues." The producers had started leaving out Markle's name from their shooting schedules shortly after news of her dating Prince Harry made headlines.
Although Markle is embracing the royal life now, another insider revealed that it was not easy for her to leave her TV series on USA Network. It was a big sacrifice for the actress, especially since she got the biggest break in her career in "Suits."
"Meghan loved playing Rachel and feels she owes so much to 'Suits.' But Harry can't move to Toronto, so she'll have to move eventually if they want to be together," a source said. "Her decision to give up the biggest role of her career would mean a lot."
Meanwhile, Prince Edward's ex, Ruthie Henshall, previously said she believes that it was unnecessary for Markle to end her acting career just to marry the royal. If Henshall had to make a choice, she would never leave acting.
"It should be about love not duty and I think it [Harry and Meghan] could work and be rather wonderful," Henshall said. "It never would have been an option for me to do so — my career is my first love and is such an important part of who I am. I would have been unhappy."
